After training at Gucci, Calvin Klein, and Donna Karan, Florence native Sofia Sizzi founded Giulietta New York in 2011. The line was picked up by prestiguous retailer Barneys in its first season and in 2012, was nominated for the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund. Sofia was named a member of the CFDA in 2013. Giulietta expanded to accessories in Spring 2015 with a capsule collection of shoes, available exclusively at Barneys.
Giulietta's dreamy, feminine pieces are inspired by 1960s Italian cinema, especially Sofia's personal heroines Monica Vitti, Claudia Cardinale and Sophia Loren, and the line is named both for Sofia's mother and Fellini's classic "Giulietta of the Spirits." Giulietta has received rave reviews from the fashion press, with Style.com calling Sofia "queen of the jumpsuit," the New York Times praising the collection as "elegantly tailored" and ELLE Magazine writing that Giulietta "combines old-world tradition with modern femininity." Sofia's girlish, vintage-inspired designs have been worn by a number of stylish women including Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, Miranda Kerr, Cameron Diaz, Lupita Nyong'o, Emma Watson, Drew Barrymore, and Liv Tyler. The collection has been featured in publications including Vogue, W, ELLE, Glamour, Harper's Bazaar, Lucky, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, and Vogue Japan.
